Developers at IO Interactive, known for the Hitman series, are putting extra effort into making gadgets in 007: First Light feel meaningful rather than just flashy props. They want each gadget to offer real gameplay value.
New Approach to Gadgets
In First Light, gadgets like a laser watch (used to stun or manipulate environments), a smoke bomb, or small tools such as a lighter are more than just cool features. They are meant to open pathways, create tactics, or offer stealth advantages—not just serve as eye candy.
Balancing Stealth and Action
While stealth and disguises remain central to the Hitman-inspired style, ranged combat is more built-in. Gadgets fit into both play styles—stealthy approach or action when things escalate. The developers are aware that Bond’s tools should be effective in both situations.
Authenticity & “Bondliness”
IOI wants to preserve what makes Bond unique: charm, creativity, resourcefulness. The team studied all aspects of the Bond universe to ensure that the gadgets match Bond’s lore, feel, and expectations, rather than being overpowered or gimmicky.
Player Choice Matters
One of IOI’s goals is to allow players flexibility: whether you want to sneak, use stealth tools, or go in more aggressively, the gadgets should support different styles. They should feel earned and useful in multiple scenarios.
With 007: First Light, IO Interactive is aiming to make gadgets feel essential—tools that contribute to strategy and immersion, not just platforms for spectacle. If this works, Bond could feel fresh and dynamic again.
